Supporting Diverse Employee Groups Impacted by Domestic Violence
The dynamics, impacts, beliefs, and solutions around domestic violence can vary among cultural and ethnic employee groups. Still, most professionals are trained to recognize and respond to it through a traditionally Western Caucasian lens. This presentation explores the differences that may be seen in domestic violence cases involving employees from various cultures and offer a new perspective for sensitively and effectively approaching these situations.
Areas of examination include how cultural views may change an employee's experience of and response to abuse, factors that influence help-seeking behaviors, and stereotypes or personal biases that may affect a helper's ability to intervene. Participants will learn new strategies for supporting employee victims from various cultural backgrounds and develop a deeper understanding of how their organization can better meet the unique needs of diverse populations.
